Scott and Kitman at the A-Ma Temple
A-Ma Temple dates from the 15th Century. The temple already existed before the city of Macao was established.
In fact, the name "Macao" derived from the phonetic Chinese "A-Ma-Gau," which means "Bay of A-Ma," referring to A-Ma Temple.
A-Ma Temple consists of the Gate Pavillion, the Memorial Arch, the Prayer Hall, the Hall of Benevolence, the Hall of Guayyin, and Zhengjiao Canlin (a Buddist pavilion), each forming a small part of the well-ordered complex which sits perfect harmony with the natural environment.
